Nice but not overwhelming, 2010-07-27 This is the first Cecelia Ahern book I've read and I think it might have beena bad one to start with! I enjoyed the gentle pace and the quirky characters. I really liked the way she wrote about a father-daughter relationship, but I have to say that I wasn't hugely happy with the end result. I know we all want happy endings to books like this but I just didn't feel like the characters were real enough.
I would give her another go, but would only read one that has good reviews!
Unbelievable, poorly written, 2010-07-27 I read a lot of books - I love reading and yes, there is a place for books to cover the unbelievable and the unexplained. However, there is a fine line between that and creating something that is unworkable.
If you want to believe that a blood transfusion can also give the recipient a whole host of memories/intellect/knowledge/ability that's one thing, but for that to be spun out into this overdrawn saga was - to me - too far fetched.
Yes, there are touching moments and particularly the dad is a great character but overall I was reading it just to finish because I don't like not finishing a book. The plot didn't really go anywhere and a lot just seemed contrived.
I personally wouldn't recommend this book although I would probably try another of Cecelia's books.
Couldn't even be bothered to finish it!, 2010-04-26 I'm not completely averse to a bit of light reading, hence bought this. However I frankly found it beyond tedious. Two main characters that I just couldn't have cared less about, and a story so predictable that you get it in the first few pages. The synopsis on the back basically tells you what happens, I honestly can't see what the content added! Add to that a few chapters in the middle of missed opportunities to meet and you'd struggle to find a more predictable book. I've given up, I just didn't care what happened to any of them and have already worked out they end up together (or what's the point of the book).
Thanks for the Memories, 2010-06-13 Thanks for the Memories is a beautifully written Irish story filled with laughter and intrigue, sprinkled with magic.
Not Cecelia's best, but still worth a read, 2010-03-23 This wasn't my favourite Cecelia Ahern read, I found the main female character increasingly desperate and the whole plot came across as though it had been written with an eye on a romcom film adaptation. It's also a little "Sleepless in Seattle".
I personally prefer "If you could see me now" and "Where rainbows end".
I wouldn't want to pay full price for this, but if you can pick it up in a charity shop you'll have done a good dead and also obtained a pleasant enough read.
