Average rating of 5/5 The 2nd most important album in metal., 2010-05-07
It Black Sabbath was tghe spark, Stained Class was the accelerant. Priest take metal away from the blues, increase the tempo, polish the sound and perfect the twin guitar attack. From the opening drum assault of Exciter, with its insistent, chugging riff and epic twin lead harmonies, it was clear that this was something new and something special. The title track and Saints in Hell are overlooked metal masterpieces, while the epic ballad Beyond the Realms of Death develops the potential of the genre as a whole. Definitive Priest, definitive Metal.

I'm no classical buff but this CD is sublime!! I especially like The Danse Macabre just for the name of it!
You'll recognise lots of tunes from Charlie Chaplin films, and the whole CD hasn't got one duff track on it!!

Average rating of 5/5 Live in the studio!, 2010-05-21
Burning like a beacon of hope this flawless platter from Metal Gods priest came out in 1979, and was the record that united the old school with the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. They re-recorded their classics live in the studio and bunged some crowd noise over the top. Some people had a problem with this. Not I. Oh no, Sir. Its still in my all time top 20. It simply ripps from start (Exciter) to finish (Tyrant). Highlights would have to be Sinner and Victime of Changes. The 1st few vinyl Lps also had a bonus 7" in as well (containing Hell bent For Leather, Rock Forever and Beyond The Realms of Death) which completes the set brilliantly.

Average rating of 5/5 As perfect a metal album as is humanly possible!!, 2010-02-28
Between the awesome cover artwork and songs like "Electric Eye" and "You've Got Another Thing Comin'," it shows a band at a time when they had everything coming together--rising popularity, a distinct musical direction, and a peak of musical ability. "Screaming for Vengeance" isn't Judas Priest's best album, but it certainly comes close.

Exploding with menace immediately with "The Hellion," "Screaming for Vengeance" opens with the famous "Electric Eye," a paranoid look at a futuristic surveillance machine. "Electric Eye" is complete with the amazing intro, powerful riffs, brilliantly distorted and manipulated vocals, and one of Glenn Tipton's best solos. A rapid drum solo introduces the next track, "Riding on the Wind," which shows Priest performing a song reminiscent of tracks on "Hell Bent for Leather" or "British Steel": relatively simple riffs and a driving beat to give the sensation of driving down the highway. Halford's vocals are simply amazing with high pitched notes held for great lengths of time.

Screaming for Vengeance hold many other classics, such as the mid-tempo groove of "Bloodstone," the rapid, exciting title track, and the inspiring hit single "You've Got Another Thing Comin'." These songs are amazing enough to forget about the more pop and commercial basis of the album, and it's a very easy album to enjoy. The band is having fun, and their audience should too.

Average rating of 5/5 An excellent "First Album" from The Beast That Is Priest, 2008-03-03
Released in 1977, "Sin After Sin" marked the band's first effort after signing their first major record deal with CBS. Although not strictly their first album (Rocka-Rolla, and the masterpiece Sad Wings of Destiny preceeded it) it was their first release after signing their first major record + world tour deal with CBS, as opposed to the greedy Gull Records they had signed to previously. Either way, this album did not disappoint, and still stands the test of time as a masterpiece in heavy metal - a mere three decades young.

The album opener "Sinner" is the epitome of classic Priest, fast, heavy as lead, and complimented beautifully by the unmistakeable voice of Halford as well as some of the most technical and precise drumming to be found on any 'Priest album - courtesy of Mr Simon Phillips. Though perhaps the greatest aspect to this album is the 'two-side' quality it posesses, split almost in half between hard and heavy riff-based tracks following in the wake of Sad Wings' phenomenal "Victim of Changes", and also slower, more melodic songs reminiscent of Rocka-Rolla's "Run of the Mill" or Sad Wings' "Dreamer Deceiver". The highlights are definitely "Sinner", "Starbreaker" and "Raw Deal" in the first category, and "Last Rose of Summer" and "Here Come The Tears" in the second. This split in the album is somewhat reminiscent of the format for Blue Oyster Cult's "Tyranny and Mutation" album, with the "Red and Black" concept.

Also included on this album is the band's second recording of Joan Baez's classic, "Diamonds and Rust" (and on the remaster a neat cover of The Gun's "Race With The Devil"!!). With the poor recording quality of their earlier effort stripped away, "Sin After Sin" showcases the real quality and beauty of this Priest classic. All in all, "Sin After Sin" is a great showcase of the band breaking into their finest years, particularly highlighting Halford's soaring vocals and the Tipton/Downing twin lead attack that for so long has defined the sound of Heavy Metal music. Put most simply, this album was released almost 14 years before I was born, and yet for me it is still a classic that makes me wish I could have been there in the glory days of Heavy Metal.
